Taking a year off for financial reasons?

I'm an accepted student for the class of 2013. I'm psyched that I'm accepted but for financial reasons, I'm considering that I might have to take leave of absence after my freshman year. I intend to do internships/community service during that gap year and come back to start again for sophomore year. Does anyone know if this is possible at Cornell? I was searching on the student website but I couldn't find any specific information. Anyways, thank you in advance for your help!

why after freshman year?

well, I think that is possible because a lot of Koreans leave to serve army in Korea for 2 years. And they usually do that after their sophomore year. To me, your situation is no different than Koreans’.

^ But does Cornell allow you to take a year off just AFTER FRESHMAN YEAR?

^^ bump bump

Email/call them.

From what I heard from Koreans, they can go serve army anytime when they are at Cornell. But you should definitely ask Cornell.

Cornell allows you to request voluntary leaves of absence. I’m not sure you can request before being a student here, and I’m not sure how easy/hard it is to get it approved.

Here is some info:
[Cornell University 7.1, Voluntary Leave of Absence for Students](http://www.policy.cornell.edu/vol7_1.cfm)

I have 1 question- if you are taking a year off for financial reasons, how will community service/internships help with this? Are you looking for paid work?
