Assume I take a year off from school after graduating. Then I move out of state to Ohio. I live there for one year (without taking ANY classes from ANY higher level learning institutions), and then apply at Ohio State the following year. Would I then be eligible to pay in-state tuition? Thanks guys!

It looks like your parents will have to live and work in ohio

**E. Exceptions to the General Rule of Residency for Subsidy and Tuition Surcharge Purposes **

1) A person who is living and is gainfully employed on a full-time or part-time and self-sustaining basis in Ohio and who is
pursuing a part-time program of instruction at an institution of higher education shall be considered a resident of Ohio for
these purposes. **

As a previous student posed the same question, your answer is the same. The challenge is that you will be in a catch 22 situation; if your parents are not Ohio residents, you will have to hold a full time job and be self sustaining (no help from parents) and attend part time. If you do this, as long as you are under 24 years old, you will need your parent’s income and asset information in order to be eligible for federal aid. Their income/assets + your income/assets may most likely knock you out of the box for need based aid (other than you you can borrow as a student in loans. This may not be enough for you to attend college.
