Taking a year off?

I'll be graduating from my CC Spring '12. I will probably have to take a year off before transferring to a 4-year college due to the fact that I'll need to save up to be able to afford to go to a 4-year.
I know in the common app I'll have to explain the gap year, would that be a good enough reason or would it be enough for a uni/college to disregard me altogether because I'm not spending that year off doing something more amazing in some other country building homes for people...or something like that.

There is nothing wrong with earning money to pay for college. It will not be held against you. However, be sure to explore financial aid and scholarship opportunities because you may find that moving on to the four-year university is more affordable than you thought. Go talk to your financial aid people at your CC and find out what the four-year colleges around you offer.
