Taking a year off

Someone from my local alum association told me that if I applied after senior year, it would have increased my chances slightly because I would have been done with senior year and have received all final grades, thus having the "full package" displayed for them to make a decision. I was also told that it would increase my chances of being denied as well because they have the "full package." Is this true in anyway?

I guess that if they have more information about you, it can either help you or hurt you, just like anything else. I know, not a good answer. Don't worry about it, though.

haha. sorry for such a horrible answer, but I felt bad at the lack of responses.

I'm not sure it would be worth it to wait a whole year on the off-chance you might have a better chance at Harvard...however, if you intend to defer matriculation no matter where you go, that's cool!

The only thing I can think to contribute is that I hear that if you have applied say, for the class of 2010, sometimes the Harvard admissions committee will offer you a seat if you agree to defer matriculation and enter with the class of 2011. I've never verified, but it's been on a few threads around here. I think someone said it was mostly for legacies though. Anyway, if you've already applied, and they really really love you but don't have space this year, maybe they'll offer you a 2011 spot, which is similar to the idea you were asking about. Good luck!

Yeah, Z-listing? I've heard of that. I'm deferring a year no matter what school I go to. I've had alot of problems this year, plus I want to do some community service this year, some projects, etc.

I'm writing a letter to the admissions committee (I've already applied early) along with my supplemental stuff saying why I'm deferring if accepted.
