How would this work? My mom actually suggested it tonight, as I'm a year younger (I started school a year early). Would I apply regularly, and then tell the college I choose to go to that I'm taking a year off? Would I take the year off, and then apply after I graduate (and maybe list the activity I do in that year off as an EC)? Just wondering how many of you know somebody who has taken a year off, and how it worked. Thanks.

I think taking a "gap" year is a great idea - check out the archives - there are some threads on this.

You can apply regularly - get accepted - then defer for a year. Better to do it this way then apply after you've been out for a year for reasons of momentum (everyone else is doing it - getting recs, taking SAT's, completing essays - so you might as well get all that out of the way, too) and also you will be in a better position to compete for merit aid and scholarship monies - I am not sure if you are privvy to this a year after graduation - you need to check on that.

Just make sure you still like the college that you agreed to attend!
