Hi, all! I’ve had a very, very bad first semester, and am hoping to at least pass all of my courses with a C. I feel like I won’t pull through, however, because I’ve missed a lot of school and have not done more than half of the coursework for at least two classes. I plan to talk to my professors about my worries, as finals are next week and I don’t want to be stuck with garbage grades forever (I may retake these classes to improve my GPA). I want to eventually transfer, but I worry that having an unjustified incomplete in one or more courses this semester will hurt my chances enough to leave me stuck with nowhere else to go (I’m at a CC). What do you think? Thank you!
TL; DR: Taking an incomplete vs. chancing for passing grades: how much would that affect my transfer chances?
First of all, why did you miss a lot of school?
Was it health related?
If so, the thing to do would be to have talked to your prof/dean of students at the time and maybe dropped a class.
But here you are.
How are you doing in the class?
I took some incompletes twice…once when I got pneumonia at the end of the semester and once when I was in a car accident. I took the finals for some of my easier classes, but took the finals for the others the next semester.
But make sure what the rules for incompletes are. If you are failing you may not be able to take an incomplete.
Also if it is a health issue, can you get a retroactive medical withdrawal? You would have to take these classes again.
So I suggest talking to your adviser/dean of students about a plan…what makes sense?
If you missed classes for no particular reason or working or whatever, then you will have less options and you may need to suck it up and try to get those C’s.
@booper : I was out for inexcusable reasons. I appreciate your advice! Thank you so much!
I apologize for my ignorance; I was not well-versed on the topic of an Incomplete before I posted.
