One of my daughters' friends is a sr. She has taken every available AP at our school and is feelling really swamped this year. She believes she would do better if she took an open period the last period of the day so that she could do her homework but worries that it may look bad on her transcript. So what's worse, taking only 6 of 7 periods or risking a drop in GPA? She is looking at scools like Trinity U in TX, Santa Clara, University of Portland and is in the top 10% of her class. What would you advise?

If you've got loads of AP's and you're a senior, it doesn't really seem like you're slacking off, because, well, you're not! I'd do it too, if our school offered free periods.

6 classes is more than enough. Take the free period.

she would be taking an open instead of working for a period as an office aid so it's not like she'd be missing out on an academic class. I'll pass on your advice which is consistent with what I have read elsewhere on CC. Thanks again!
