love biology honors which I am in right now. I remember things very well especially because science is my best subject. So, I signed up for AP Biology next year, and now I'm getting nervous. I keep reading online that it is a hard class and I am also going to take AP Psychology and AP Enviro.

I really want to take the AP bio class but I'm not sure if I am ready.

For the first semester of AP Bio I will also be concurrently enrolled in honors chem (thats how it is supposed to be) Then I will also be in honors Alg 2.

It depends on your teacher. TRUST ME honors bio and AP bio are extremely different. People love honors bio because its a freshman class which is supposed to be easy as hell.

Also, since you are taking it concurrently with chem. you may have some problems with the bio labs. Ex: doing titrations and understanding what molarity is

my school is weird.
The first semester of AP Bio is called Bio 2 honors and it does not require chem. So by the second semester of AP bio I will have honors chem and that is when we do our labs. So I will not have any problems.

My D is just finishing AP Bio as a freshmen. She had not taken regular Biology or Chemistry. her school has select freshmen taking a double period of regular biology and AP Biology. She has done very well and hasn’t had any trouble at all. She was very nervous before she started the class, also. Her class has only 16 or 17 kids and they’re all freshmen. In prior years the class was a mix of freshmen and seniors. The teacher told us that the freshmen tend to do better than the seniors because they try harder. This year there were enough freshmen to make a separate class. If she didn’t take AP Bio she would have been in GT Bio with a much larger class. Her friends in GT Bio have had a much harder time.
I would check the class size, you might be better off if it’s a small class - more one on one time with the teacher.

I took honors bio over the summer and absolutely LOVED it. Right now I’m in AP bio as a freshman and hate the **** out of it. The classes are VERY different. honors bio is more about introducing you to the subject, whereas AP bio is more about writing stupid lab reports and reviewing the same information from bio honors just in a trickier light. If you take it, be prepared to work your *** off.

I took Acc. Biology last year as a sophomore, and this year as a junior I’m taking Honors Chem and AP Biology concurrently with no regrets. The classes really complement each other and I am really enjoying AP Bio.

I’m taking AP Bio sophomore year but unlike that another guy that said Honors Bio is super easy, at my school it’s not. At my school honors bio and AP Bio are the same because their both hard classes. Oh, and mostly everyone at my school that takes AP BIO soph. year they get a 5. I love bio and the teacher is the same from honors bio. You should be fine haha.

My school has you take AP bio without any prior biology class, and I did fine.
Your extra experience with honors biology will make the class much simpler for you.

I took AP Biology as a sophomore this year and had no trouble. However, my honors bio class was fairly rigorous. Do you feel that you were adequately challenged this year in bio? If not, taking AP Bio as a sophomore might not be the best idea.

Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry at my school is only Sophomores. I took Honors Biology last semester and in Honors Chemistry right now. I can’t believe that in some states Biology is a Freshman class. In my school Biology is hard and many get C’s. Surprisingly I passed with a 96. Next year, my Junior year I will be taking AP Biology and AP Chemistry. The Biology teachers and the AP Biology teacher says that AP Biology might seem easy but you have to be dedicated. She also said that taking AP or Honors Chemistry with AP Biology can also help you in the class or it might break you. Honors Biology only hits the basics in the General Biology I curriculum. You’ll be doing much more in depth and I heard that they’ll be changing the AP Biology curriculum to make it much more hands on. So it’s good to have a strong foundation on basic Biology. But if you feel like you’re ready, then go ahead and take it. Don’t take it because of pressure, or because you want to impress others.

I took AP Bio as a sophomore after completing Honors Biology freshman year. I don’t even know why I took it and it was a challenging class for me, especially as a sophomore. I worked hard the entire year and once the class ended and the exam scores were released, I found out that I got the only 5 in my class.

The class is indeed hard and challenging, but I learned so many interesting things in that class. Mixed with honors Chem and other APs, it will definitely be challenging and maybe a little stressful, but if you study and do your work, the class will not be a problem. AP Bio has definitely been one of my favorite classes.

You should take it!
I took AP Bio this year as a sophomore, with no prior biology background. It was definitely hard, but I worked equally as hard and finished with a high A. My teacher was also a medical school teacher, so she was very tough but knowledgable. We used Campbell Reece textbook. Warning, the AP exam is being reformatted, so check out the new guidelines

I am currently a sophomore and took AP Bio this year. I also took Honors as a freshman (a block with AP Environmental at my school); however, I do not believe Honors level Biology even provided a preview of what AP would be like! AP is so much more in depth and really gave me my first taste of what college coursework would be like. It was the first class that I recognized as one that wouldn’t come easy-a first for me. This is the very reason I would recommend it, though. I really had to push myself and develop my own study regimen. I did get a B first quarter but got A’s the entire rest of the year. So if you’re motivated, you can certainly do it!
