My S had Pre Calculus Honors last year. Can he take AP Calculus BC without having AB first?

I know that pre-calc is skippable, skipping AP Calc AB is actually vital.

Yeah a lot of people skip to BC

BC or AB depending upon how strong you are in math. No one takes AB followed by BC.

I am going to skip to BC after honors precalc....

so its possible and very doable

As long as you're good at math, it shouldn't be a problem.

AB Calc is the first half of BC Calc spread over 2 semesters instead of one. There really is no point in taking both.

No one I know actually takes AB. I'm not sure if we even offer it.

So if you got an A- in Pre cal honors and 800 in Sat Subject Math2, you should be able to A- in AP Calc BC?

yeah

BC is technically the next step after precalc. Like a few others have mentioned before me, BC includes calc AB in addition to new stuff. AB is included in BC, so BC is the next step up pretty much. So anyone who has done the prerequisites successfully will do well

I've never heard of anyone taking both AB and BC, they usually just complete either sequence after precalc(pending their performance)

Like they said...

AB - Calculus 1
BC - Calculus 1 & 2 in the same time span.

Haha funny,
everyone at my school takes AB followed by BC.

The only options at my school are:
1.) Take Calc AB but never take BC, or
2.) Go right into BC

Students at my school have been doing it for years now, so I wouldn't worry about it!

I did it and got a 5 on the exam. As long as you did well in your precalc class you'll be fine.

wow im doing ab and bc
they dont let u skip ab at my school

Many people do it, AB is a breeze anyways.

It depends. If most people at your school have AB before BC, your teacher might just skip right to the BC-only material without covering the AB material first, in which case you'd be pretty screwed.

Otherwise, skip AB all you want.

It's pretty easy.
Just get Princeton Review, learn the stuff about BC from there, and just do bunch of practice problems.

Kids in honors pre-calc go right into BC at my school but accel level students take Calc AB.
