My sister is currently going into her sophomore year and she is considering self-studying AP courses while doing the most rigorous curriculum in her high school. However, she will be taking full IB Diploma in her junior and senior year. She would like to take AP Calc BC and AP Eco. She is really interested in these subjects, however, she also plans to take them in IB (HL Math, HL Eco).
My question is whether it’s worth it. Furthermore, will the AOs consider it as something beneficial or will look at it as a waste of her time (even assuming she gets 5s).
She is better off just taking the IB classes then taking both exams if she wants AP credit. There is much too much of the same content in both classes - it’d be a poor use of time to take both classes.
If your sister wants to know something, she needs to ask her own questions as “Asking For a Friend” posts are not allowed. But, yeah, it’s a waste of time. If a college gives credit for AP, they will likely give credit for IBHL. There may be a benefit, from a credit perspective, for taking an AP exam in an SL subject, since colleges generally give no credit for SL. But there is no benefit whatsoever from an admissions perspective.
