Taking AP English Lit without the class?

Hi, I have some questions for those who are taking / have taken AP English Lit. I'm a junior, and our school doesn't offer lit or language junior year (we only have lit as seniors).

I signed up for AP literature and planned to self-study it. However, I haven't gotten around to it. I'm decently strong at English (780 CR / 740 lit subject test), and writing has always been my main EC.

However, after looking through the Princeton review book, there seem to be a lot of technical terms + analysis on the MC and essays. Is it practical for me to spend ~3 hours looking through the PR book this weekend and hope for a 5..? Or should I focus on my other AP's?

Thanks for any advice.

It all depends on your priorities. English Lit is notoriously one of the harder aps, and THE hardest to get a 5 (6% rate). I’m fairly good at english myself,(30 ACT writing and reading), but lit is definitely hard. I’m taking it this year and am barely getting 3’s on my practice tests. One thing I suggest is you take 3 or 4 books, and understand everything about them. That’s the key to doing well in essay #3. for the others, make sure you know how to really dissect poetry and short stories(in fact, this is basically the same for the MC as well). Aside from that take multiple practice tests to get acquainted with the time restraints.

good luck :D
