Taking AP Spanish Language as a sophomore?

Hey guys,

I’m taking Spanish 3 as a sophomore and there is no honors at my school for Spanish. On the first day of Spanish 3, I introduced myself and spoke in Spanish very fluently. Then my Spanish 3 told me that he could recommend people to place them in a higher Spanish class. As always, Spanish is spoken at my home and I am a fluent speaker with makes me a native speaker, I assume. I received A’s mostly in Spanish. But came to realize, I was placed in a non-native class. I’ve taken Spanish since 7th grade. Apparently the class I am in and the AP class is taught by the head of world languages. I honestly thought the class was for juniors and seniors only but it’s for everyone who’s Spanish is very fluent. I heard the AP class is basically a preparation for the exam, most people got a 5 and it’s straightforward. So what do I do?

Tomorrow is ‘request a schedule change’ day and I don’t know if I should stay in Spanish 3 or take AP Spanish Language.

Here is my Spanish lifespan as of now: Intro. Spanish (7th) -> Spanish 1 (8th) -> Spanish 2 (9th) -> Spanish 3 (10th)

I need advice.

Take AP Spanish. I took it last year and got a 5, but you sound more prepared then I was. Personally, I would suggest to just practice your writing since most people that I know that speak Spanish fluently arn’t the best of writers, including me. Don’t worry and take the class. You’ll be alright :slight_smile:

Besides, as a sophomore you’re more then ready. I was a junior when I took the class. It was mostly full of juniors and sophomores with the occasional senior or freshman.

Yeah, I heard. I went into the class today and the majority was Juniors/Seniors and a bit of sophomores.
