Taking AP USH Exam and SAT II

I'm a Junior in AP USH right now. So I figured I'd take the USH SAT II, seeing as how it will be right around the same time as the AP test (and for us Juniors in MA, the same time as the USH MCAS test).
Which test date should I aim for?
The AP test is on Friday, May 9.
The two options I'm considering for the SAT II are May 3 and June 7. So should I take it the week before the AP test or a month after?
Also, I'll probably buy a prep book for the SAT II (already have a ton for AP) just because it is a different test. Any suggestions?

hey man i wud atke it in june just so it takes pressure off u kno
btw wat prep books are u using for the AP test?

Well I have REA and PR, but I haven’t really started looking at them yet.
I think AMSCO is the best. It’s also a great tool for regular AP USH tests, not just the AP exam.
And I have the Barron’s flashcards.

from a senior:
TAKE IT IN JUNE!!! i took it in June after the AP test (got a 5) and easily got a 780 without studying for it.

yeah blinkangel
i am about to order AMSCO cuz everyone is saying that it is like the best
i was thinking about REA but i heard AMSCO has one practice test too and is good practice
how do the practice tests of AMSCO and REA compare to the real exam?

One more piece that I forgot to include.
Whichever date I do not take the SAT II is when I’ll be taking the SAT I.
My guidance counselor told me that he recommends that Juniors take it in June. But I’m really leaning towards May. So I think I’ll take SAT I in May then SAT II in June, as recommended by you guys.

I would do the SAT II in May since it’s usually a week before the APs and you’re prepping at the same time. Then take the month later to worry solely on the SAT I. You don’t want to worry about the APs and SAT I at the same time.

Very good point. I didn’t really think about that.

definitely take it in May…you’ll already be studying for it anyone while you’re prepping for the APUSH exam. From what i’ve heard, the two exams aren’t that different question-type wise.

i basically agree with everything asinine said. I’ll be doing the same thing this may. Good luck to us both!

Yes, good luck to you too!
Looks like I’ll be doing it in May then.
Anyone have any SAT II prep book suggestions then?

Yes, I agree with asinine and I did that myself. With the pressure of my APs and prepping for them, I found it very difficult to concentrate on it. Some of the material covered on the SAT II differs from the AP and you might want to have that time to take practice tests–without worrying about APs and prepping solely for the sat II.

June, I recommend.

uh? lol.

You agreed with asinine but said the opposite of what he said.lol

Yeah… which are you recommending, SAT II in May or June? Lol.

again, take it in June. i think it’s good psychologically. after taking the AP test the subject test will seem VERY easy. think about which score matters more. cough subject test score if you’re applying to schools that require subject tests. cough

P.S.
all of my friends who used the “do it in May” rational ended up wishing they took it after the AP test. if you’re lazy like us you probably won’t start studying for the AP test until one or two nights before.

Take it in May!!!

I received a 720 in the USH subject test and a 4 on the AP test.

Taking it in May helps you stay focused on US History.

I’d say take it in June. In my case, I’m planning to take my next SAT on October, so Imma take my SAT IIs in June, so that I can award myself a break, and take the SAT II under optimal conditions.

As lazy as I am, I am very studious.
And definitely expected to get a 5 (I have the highest grade in my class right now, and my school notoriously has excellent AP scores).
I think I’m gonna put more thought into this.

Concisely, June. Give yourself the time to relax after APs and look over SAT II stuff. I realize that you’re confident about it. But, why stress out more during AP week? Give yourself the extra month!

But I think the SAT I will cause more stress than the SAT II, y’know what I mean?
And I have to take both.
My abusive relationship with Junior Year continues.

Ah, I wish you luck in your endeavors. I’m so happy I’m half-way done with senior year. Getting through junior year is the worst part.
