Taking Army ROTC just for fun?

So, I am going to be a freshman at my local public university next semester. I am considering participating in ROTC.

I was/am considering doing the military, but eh, I am unsure. But I think I would enjoy learning some of the military skills. So I figure since there is no commitment just for trying the class out I'd give it a shot.

Is it worthwhile? I am going to be a bio major, will be doing work study, and taking a few theatre class (also for kicks). Will taking ROTC overload (I am also going go to PT in the mornings) my schedule?

Any opinions from people who take ROTC (especially science majors)?

If you’re interested in the military and ROTC, you should take it. Don’t let it overload you though, if your school’s program is any like mine if you’re not contracted all you basically have to do is go to the class, and labs and PT are optional. The class if you’re a freshman meets one hour a day once a week, so it shouldn’t be too hard, and it’s not a hard class to pass academically. Most of the challenge comes from activities outside the classroom.

Worse comes to worse, you don’t like it after a semester and you still get one hour of credit, and if your school counts PT as a PE class, you can get PE credit also if you need it. I enjoy it, you’ll meet some cool people and go on some cool trips, and if you put effort into it, you’ll do good. Don’t let them pressure you into contracting though if you don’t want to, because a lot of the events become mandatory.
