so i am a general biology major, but i slacked off in ap bio (it was my senior year). bio is easy for me and i got a 3 on the ap test going in cold turkey. i was wondering what is the work load like for BILD 1 and 3 and is it possible to take both at the same time? i would be taking 18 units overall b/c im in sixth college and the writing course is 6 units

Sounds fine to me.

3 on ap used to exempt you from taking bild 1, its basically the same stuff (what are introns/exons, yadda yadda) and bild 3 is tons of population ecology (convergent evolution, positive selection, etc). They are both pretty easy classes, especially if you are a bio major you should be able to take on these two classes at once (your upper div classes are harder, and those you will have to take together). Just make sure you go to class to know what specific examples your professors use (esp for bild 3) and they usually use clickers for participation points. You should be totally okay as long as you dont ‘slack off’ again

bild3 uses the same textbook from ap bio (at least the one i used–it’s campbell, the one with like a huge flower on it with a black background? might be something other than a flower…but yeah campbell)
so it covers the same material i remember reading back in apbio.

That’s crazy! I use that black background flowerish-thing book in AP Bio. I had no idea it was used in college.

thanks for all the great replies guys :)

oh and do you remember if the discussions for bild 1/3 were required? i know it depends on the teacher. my bild 1 teacher is kiger and bild 3 is going to be holway

@jesuis yeah haha i didnt know either. but i think the one in high school is an AP version whereas the one we use for the class isnt, also it’s a different edition, with some different material/reorganized chapters.
but it’s practically identical. my friend told me to buy the book though, even though i have the ap version at home, because she suggested i not take a chance at my grade to save some money.

@ucsdalex for my bild3 class, the sections arent required but highly recommended. there is not an attendance portion to my grade. but it differs per prof. i guess. my prof. said he didnt want to mess around with the iclickers to take attendance–too messy or something.
