taking Calc 1 over the summer as an online class. Dumb?

I'm about to try and attempt an online version of Calculus 1 over the summer. I took it once before over regular semester and had to drop due to failing grades. I took business calc last semester and got a B in it, barely studied, usually the night before the test. Wanted to go back into engineering so I'm thinking of trying out calc 1 again. Only available summer class to me is calculus so I figure why not, only catch is it's online only. Is this going to be too difficult to bare? I'm not sure how much harder online classes are from regular courses. Any information or experiences would be useful.

I’ve taken most of my math classes online, including calc 1 and calc 3 (which I’m currently finishing up). I’m a fan of online classes, but you A) have to be disciplined (you don’t have to physically go to class, this causes people to procrastinate a lot) and B) you should be pretty savvy in being able to find information online, i.e. videos explaining theorems, homework help websites, etc. Sometimes another student in the classes will email everybody and try to form a studygroup that meets personally. If no one does that, I suggest you start it, it can be a great help. I would normally say don’t take calc 1 online over the summer because it’s a different way of thinking from previous maths and you have to get used to it, but if you’ve taken it before (even if you failed out), you probably have some idea of whats going on.

Just make yourself a weekly schedule, a few hours+ a day, where you will sit down and study the material. Don’t let yourself get distracted. Most online professors will have you do online homework or weekly questions you have to answer or something, so that should help you stay on top of things. It may be tough, but if you really put your head to the books and keep it there you should do fine.

I think you’ll do fine if you’ve taken the class before

Im doing the same thing. I couldn’t drop because I was enroll in Cal-based Physics (Co-current or prerequisite of Cal I). I had 100% on MyMathLab, but Exam was too difficult. The trig identities killed me in Cal I. Online should be easy with “Open book” exam.

^

That’s the thing, I’ve heard people some people say online is that much more difficult due to the fact it’s “open book”. No idea how the format of tests will work out due to programs that exist like wolframalpha.

Im taking Cal 1 this summer, buts its the classroom normal one. Like others, I have taken Business math 1 & 2, and 2 was about calculus. So I hope to do well in Cal 1, or my fall schedule will be ****ed.

btw, Its because i changed majors from Accounting to MechE.

I know in my Online Trigonometry class… the teacher had a timer on the test lol. Ratemyprofessor graded my summer professor easy, so I will be taking him.
