This is the suggested schedule for freshman bio majors, and I'm wondering for any other pre-meds out there if this is too much? Was the workload too much? I was thinking of taking calc my sophomore year, but I kind of want to take physics my sophomore year so I can take the MCAT the summer before Junior Year...

I’m a bio major, but I’m not premed. I took Cell and Developmental Biology, Calc 1, and Gen Chem first semester last year. The only other class I took was a Freshman writing seminar and I thought my schedule was easily managed. Classes were very challenging and it definitely wouldn’t be easy, but there’s much worse. I’m really glad I didn’t put off calc since I found the class annoying. But if you feel you want to take an easier course load you could always take calc in the spring

What do you mean by annoying? If you don’t mind me asking.

I got a 5 on one of my AP english exams. I can exempt out of one FWS right? So I could take one semester of FWS and another semester of Calc?

The FWS exemptions go by each college’s policy. I think the Knight Institute has information on that.

I took that schedule my first semester at Cornell, as a bio major but not premed. I found Cornell overwhelming for other reasons, and had some trouble in the classes, but I still believe it was a reasonable set of courses. I had enough time to put into those courses, and I was able to seek help at times (so I didn’t do worse.)

Iwannabeavet, I found the class annoying because of the fact that I had Calc in high school and found a lot of it to be review. The prelims were very challenging though and I ended up with a B in the class (much lower than I expected). The class changes every semester though, and I had a friend who thought the class was fine when she took it in the spring. And as faustarp said- you can always seek help. Calc, bio, and chem will most likely have supplementary classes that you can go to once a week and review the lecture material. I would definitely check out Chem 1007 with Dr. Steve Johnson, it was a great help.

I was a bio major as well as premed and took multivar calc, intro bio, and honors gen Chen my first semester. I think its reasonable and probably even expected that you take those 3 subjects together if you’re premed. They should present a decent challenge.
