Taking calculus (math 115) and econ 101 in the same semester?

Next semester I need to take this combination in order to be eligible to apply to Ross. My counselor said only 7% of students who take this combo are successful. I was wondering if she was correct on this... that this combo is almost impossible--and if it's even worth risking my gpa.

Thank you.

It depends on how comfortable you are with those subjects. Neither is that difficult, but they require some effort.

The two classes do correlate a little bit, but it really shouldn't be too bad. The integrals you will need to do for Econ 102 are pretty simple...it is more about looking at the graph and being able to calculate the areas you need...really just some simple geometry in this area.

What sort of math background do you have?

If you want to get into the B-school and you need those two to apply, I'd say go for it. Join a study group or something, and just work really hard at understanding the material. If you're questioning whether you should do it for lack of GPA, you don't really have the right attitude to succeed IMO. At some level it is natural aptitude but if you really want it bad enough you'll be one of those 7%.

You have no choice but to take it.

And Im taking it together this semester and finding it perfectly fine.

That's a very interesting statistic. Is it because students who take both struggle to get good grades in both? Or is it because the students who do this aren't the students they want for some reason unrelated to grades. My son took calc 116 and econ 101 -- got an A in calc, and a B+ in Econ -- and was not accepted to Ross.

I am in Math 215 and Econ 101 right now, yes it is doable
