Taking Class outside of your regular CC

Hi everyone. I need to take a Calculus I class during this upcoming fall semester. Problem is, the calc classes at my school, Glendale Community College, offer classes that either dont fit my schedule or have really bad teachers. I am considering taking a Calc class at Pasadena City College, while taking all my other classes at Glendale College during fall.

Do you think the adcom's will frown upon this? Will this look bad? Also, do you think this is worth it? Are all Calculus classes pretty much the same, regardless of instructors?

By the way, I'm a business major, and Calculus is a core requirement that they really look at. Thanks!

i'd like to know this myself

but as for calc I....it really shouldn't be a hard class at all

as for calc I professor at pcc, i'd recommend, yang or hovsepian (former ucla professor)....they're great professors

although their class is closed, i'm pretty sure you can add hovsepian's calc I class on the first day....i think he added everyone who came the first day when i had him

moonboy, how sure are you he added everyone on the first day? Was this a spring or fall semester? Did a lot of registered people not show up? Thanks alot.

Oh, and I'm also interested in adding Michel. Do you know anything about her leniency on adding students first day?

i don't know about michel, but as for hovsepian....i had him for fall 05 and people just sat on the floor to listen to his lecture

then a week gone by, many people dropped him class

from my expierence in calc I and II....many people drop their class after the first week...in case the professor doesn't add you, just stick around and wait for the people to drop if the professor let you(they usually will let you but won't guarantee a spot)

dood...im attending four colleges at once this next semester...dont even trip

"Do you think the adcom's will frown upon this? Will this look bad? Also, do you think this is worth it? Are all Calculus classes pretty much the same, regardless of instructors"

Why on Earth would they look down upon this? If anything at all, it shows initative that you want to get things done now...instead of waiting around another semester...

what the hell, it must be a pain in the ass to drive to four cc's.

online classes ftw

i'm taking multipls classes at 3 CCC's for this fall semester. not too much of a hassle since I was able to schedule classes at each CCC only one or twice a week and not on the same days.1 CCC is only a 10-15 drive away, the other 2 are at least an hour away. i'm less concerned with the driving distance, since the teachers for those classes are good. only other issue as a business major is taking both accounting and stats during the same semester. i'm not a fan of math, but i can tolerate if i have to. just conerned about the workload in both classes or if i should put one of them off for the next semester

Actually a UCLA counselour I talked to said that if your school doesn't offer the course and you try to go to another college to complete the classes, it will look good, telling the admissions that you really are serious about completing your class in a timely matter, that's what he said.
Yeah and taking classes at two colleges isn't really weird at all. I myself am taking a class at PCC this fall, so I'll see you there :)

I am having this same dillema. I think I will end up having to go to SMC again which sucks. The teacher I am signed up for now does not look good. I read his syllabus online and it appears our first assignment is a 2 page essay...for calculus?? Not a good sign. :(

I went to 5 CCs in my area, it does not look bad, and the teacher for Calc 1 makes a huge diffrence in weather you will hate calc or somewhat like it. I had an amazing amazing amazing teacher i drove 40 miles for, ...... it was well worth it.
