Taking class P/F, bad idea?

Do you think taking a Gen Ed class P/F is a bad idea if you know you're going to struggle in the class or don't have the time to really put forth a valiant effort?

I'm talking about more in regards to graduate school admissions, future job prospects, etc.

I am going to say that it is not a bad idea. Unless you are an English major and taking literature as p/f or are a chemistry major and taking general chemistry p/f then it will change the severity. Honestly it would be a pretty good idea, it will provide you with more time and less stress for your real core degree classes.

yeah its fine. i heard some law schools might not like it if you take p/f, but what do they care if you take biology p/f

I don't think there's a compnay on earth that cares if you took a gen ed class pass/fail. Only certain industires place a heavy emphasis on GPA as it is, and that's only for the first job out of school.

For grad school-don't take classes p/f that you want to explore at the grad. level. However, these are generally not gen ed. classes.

Makes sense; I haven't taken any pass/fail...although I wish I would have taken the 2 science classes I got a C in P/F because I would have a 3.53 overall GPA right now instead of a 3.43.

My college doesn't allow gen eds to be taken pass/fail unless they are just electives only...

I think it is a great idea if used selectively ... especially if it helps a student take a course they might not have taken otherwise due to a concern about their possible grade ... for example an engineering student taking a class on writing poetry or artsy type taking quantum physics ... college is a prime time to explore new things and to take chances and selectively using P/F can help that quest.
