Working at wall street or the world bank or something like that is my dream! How hard is it to be able to take classes in Wharton if you’ve been accepted into Haverford Econ?
I’m not a student, but my son is. I know there are kids that take classes at Penn, although there aren’t many, but I believe they limit you as to the classes they offer to others in the consortium. I’m not certain you can actually take classes in Wharton so you’ll want to research that a bit more.
@cowycam7 , A class or two at Wharton will have no impact on your ability to work on Wall Street. Haverford will carry it’s own credibility. Howard Lutnick is the most notable, but there are a lot of Haverford grads in lower Manhattan.
Besides, if Haverford exerts its Quaker influence on you, you may very well rethink your desire to work on Wall Street or for the World Bank.
I think its not typical to take classes at Wharton, but I’ve heard that there are a few students who do. You should probably talk to your academic advisor and the registrar if you are interested in classes at Wharton, I’m not sure if the process is/isn’t same as when you take other classes. Normally you just fill out a form stating which courses you wish to take and penn will notify you at a later date if you are in the class. I may be taking a class at Penn next semester to fulfill my language requirement.
Either way I would recommend waiting until sophomore year or at least second semester freshman year to take classes at Penn that way you get adjusted to college and get to know the surrounding area first. Commuting into Penn isn’t hard, but it is considerably more effort than rolling out of bed and walking five minutes to class in the morning. If anything try to take night classes at Penn since Haverford’s classes end by 4pm.
