Hello I am going to Emory next year and I was wondering what their policy was about taking community college classes over the summer. I have already done joint enrollment at the school for two years and I just wanted to try and get some more credit before I start Emory in the fall. Thanks!!

I tihnk I read somewhere that you need to be in a class with college students. If you took the classes at you high school with other high school students, then Emory won’t take the credit.

thanks and all of my prior classes were with other college students, but I was wondering if I take any more classes now that I have graduated if Emory will still count them…

I’m pretty sure that Emory will not take dual enrollment credits from high school. If you got HS credit, they will not transfer to Emory. You should speak with someone at the registrar’s office to be sure, though.

To be honest, you should just enjoy your summer. These courses don’t count towards GPA and there’s no way to be sure Emory will even take the credit hours towards graduation. Unless the course description of the class that you are taking matches an Emory course exactly, they won’t take the credit. And even if it does, they still may not take the credit. A lot of people have a hard time getting outside classes to count, and I don’t begin to understand how they determine who gets it and who doesn’t. Maybe someone else knows more? But how frustrating would it be to spend time and money on something that won’t count for anything? I strongly suggest waiting til you get on campus, figuring out the system, then taking classes next summer.

Take pride in all the work you’ve done to get this far and enjoy the last few months with your friends from HS. I promise no summer will ever be the same as the summer after senior year.
