When is it good to do it? I have one GE left (Cat 4), and will be taking 5 classes total - a bit of a load.

Also, is it something where I can switch to pass fail after the first few weeks if it seems demanding?

If you have one more left, why not take the last one easy.

You can change it up until the end of the add/drop period.

how many classes can you take pass fail?

It varies. But for GE’s, you can take up to 1 GE pass/fail, as long as it is not Writ140 or Writ340. I believe for most majors you can not take major classes pass/fail. But you SHOULD be able to take elective classes pass/fail. Not sure if there’s a limit per semester you can take pass/fail.
