Taking classes to boost GPA

Could it possibly work against an engineering major to take an easy blow off class like "student success seminar", a three unit class, to boost the student's GPA?

I've been hearing that the best number of units to have is between 60 and 70, and anything over 70 isn't advantageous.

1)It wouldn't work against a student, But it wouldn't help them either. The only time where it would help is to get them past that cut-off gpa. Grades in pre-requisite courses are much more important. Taking fluff classes can't make up for low marks in major courses, especially engineering.

2)Also, semester or quarter units?

Where did you hear that having above 70 units isn't advantageous?

I think what he's referring to is that classes over 70 semester units (Correct me if I'm wrong) don't transfer over...all the counselor's i've asked about this issue have given me incredibly vague answers, but that's the only conclusion i can draw...

^ maxiumum units that can be transfer over is 70 only and I don't think by taking more units than take which make you disadvantages because the more units can apply to taking more upper math classes (like cal1,2,3) or taking some relax courses to boost your GPA.

This would be a last minute attempt to boost my GPA.

If you attained all your credit at a CCC, maybe even a school that doesn't offer a BA iirc, then the unit limitation does not apply.
