i’ve heard from many people that taking atleast 1 college class during senior year will make or break an a persons chances at attnding one of the UC’s. is this true? How important is taking a college class for the UC’s.

Yes, yes, yes...do it...it helps your GPA and you can use it on your "resume."

Well worth the time you spend at a j.c...and just think...that's one less class you'll have to take in college!

My kid took a Political Science class...a six week summer class...teacher let them out early every single night and it was a great experience!

mtlvrmom does your son's college accept the political science credit? That's the thing that I'm worried about. If the college I go to will accept Community College credits.

Thanks

yes, just make sure its a college credit course....the counselors at the jc are very hopeful, although the admissions lady said "you know, most h.s. kids drop out before they finish a summer course and it will be forever on your record." Snotty lady...I wanted to send my son back there with his B GRADE and say "SO NOW WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO SAY?"""

WHOOPS...I meant to say "HELPFUL" not HOPEFUL!

Accepting the credit is one question but more importantly they will allow you to enroll in a higher level course such as avoiding a prerec so you could benefit even if the credit doesn't go into you GPA

I did a "Ask the Dean" at CC on this topic a few months ago, and for me it was a surprising answer. The question why something about whether or not adcoms preferred AP courses or comm college courses. The answer was that AP's are more highly regarded in general by the adcoms, but that it depends. Some AP courses at some high schools can be poor or good, and the same goes for the quality of Comm Colleges. This was surprising for me since I thought that comm college courses would obviously be better than any AP course. The AP courses I am used to seeing are at public schools and our local comm college is quite qood, and so this may have influenced me.
