Taking College classes in H.S.

This probably seems like a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. In Ohio if you take classes at a local CC, while you are in H.S., it's free, books and everything(At least it was a couple years ago when someone was telling my parents about it). So I plan on doing this, for to at least get maybe 12-15 easy credits out of the way. Will this affect undergrad admission at all, potientially being a second semester freshman if the classes match up and you get credit for them?

And this question is really off the wall, but I'll ask it anyway. Part of me wants to join the Navy, right out of H.S. It would only be for two years, and I'd probably take classes (part-time) at some college by where I'm stationed or on-line if I'm deployed on a ship, if possible. I would go in as an E-3, because I'm an Eagle Scout, so that is intriguing a little bit to me and it would only be for two years, use the GI Bill, see the world or return to my birthstate, Hawaii. And I would like to become an officer and maybe make it my career.
But my real question is, how would being in the Navy for two years affect my admission? Especially if I would probably be maybe a second(or 1st) semester Sophomore, if the classes match up, so I know this would technically be a transfer I guess. And how much of a "hook" could being in the Navy be? Could it harm me in any way?

Thanks

Don’t bank on getting credit for any of those classes. Notre Dame is VERY stingy on handing out credit - short of AP, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone getting credit for local community college classes, for whatever reason.

Being in the armed services will not interfere with your (eventual) admissions - in fact, I would say it would be a pretty good hook. One of the guys who ran for Student Body VP was a Marine who did a four year tour and then started at ND, so the admissions are certainly open to those sort of “nontraditional” students. Also, as a red-blooded American, I would certainly salute your commitment to our Armed Services.

Thanks. Well that kind of sucks about not getting credit, but it probably looks better than no college credit, unless I completely bomb it.

Right now, I want to go to ND right out of H.S., most likely paying for it through the NROTC program. But if things don’t work out that way for whatever reason (People tell me I have a very good chance of getting in, but who knows), I have a plan B. Plus, it’s only for two years and I think it would be cool to serve and see the other side if I want to be an officer.
