Taking combined articulated courses at different community colleges? Assist problems.

For some reason despite being registered on the waitlist (I’m a 99% sure) I was dropped? from the linear algebra waitlist at my community college. I am registered for the differential equations course there though. I was able to register to take a Linear algebra course at a nearby community college.

or most of the UC’s I am applying to transfer to, being quarter schools the two courses count as separate courses. I am not worried about that. UC Berkeley on the other hand being a semester school has assist requirements where both of the courses together at a school count as equivalent to their math 54 course.

Will they understand my situation? Since both courses are separate math courses that teach specific things, does it matter if I take the courses at separate community colleges? Should I try to talk with the admissions and records to see if they messed up on my waitlist situation (Our college transitioned to a new registration system over the summer that might have caused it? Even if it was their fault and they admitted it I don’t think they would even consider getting me back into the class b/c of logistics or whatever. I should also state that the nearby community college requires students to finish linear before starting differentials. I am trying to complete both this fall semester. I have some things coming up in spring that will not let me take many courses, especially difficult and time consuming courses like high level math courses.

Sorry about the full rant/stream of though here. Just really freaked out since Idk what my situation is and I don’t want not to be qualified to apply to my dream school b/c of technicalities.

?

What I had said, then deleted, was unless Berkeley specifically says both courses need to be at the same CCC (which I doubt it says), then you can take the two quarter courses at different CCCs. I would check on assist, though, to verify that they articulate to the same Cal course. Linear and differential are very specific courses so I don’t see where there would be any confusion.

The reason I deleted earlier comment was because it occurred to me they might need to be taken sequentially, but a few subsequent checks shows me that’s not the case. At least not everywhere.

Just out of curiosity - are the two courses in the same CCC district?

You would hope so, but if they are using some automated system to match course articulations, it may not have the knowledge to know that linear algebra at CC1 + differential equations at CC2 = UCB MATH 54. Also, if the admissions reader is not familiar with sophomore-level math courses, s/he may not realize that either.

Perhaps ask directly how to handle this situation.
