Taking courses pass/fail as a pre-med?

@artloversplus What I’ve been trying to explain is that the program I’m in requires taking Spanish pass/fail. I didn’t have the choice to take a Spanish class outside the program. I didn’t have the choice to take it p/f or graded. If you take Spanish, you must take it through the program and it must be taken pass/fail. You never see a grade or any numbers – at the end, you get an email from your professor that says “Congratulations, you passed,” or “I reviewed your final exam and I am sorry to say that you did not pass.”

@umcoe16 My transcript just says “P” without an explanation.

Op
You should speak to your premed advisor and see if there is anyway that course can be replaced by another graded equivalent if you have not committed to take it.
If you have completed the course, as everyone had commented, one course is not going to make a difference, just don’t do it again.

My GPA has already taken a serious blow and it’s not even my fault. Wow.

SOrry guys I don’t mean to keep going with this since it’s been thoroughly answered, but here’s something I found on the website:

Does the RC have grades? Yes, with a few exceptions. Grades were instituted in the RC in 2001, making the class of 2005 the last eligible to graduate under the former system of exclusively written evaluations. The only RC courses that aren’t graded are the Intensive I & II foreign language classes. RC courses, however, like LSA courses, may be elected Pass/Fail if they are not concentration courses.

You’re fine.
This is NOT one of those grades out can 'uncover ', and it’s not a big deal.
Please don’t worry.
Do you think no one in the RC has ever gone to med school?
There’s likely a RC designation somewhere on your transcript, too, and if need be one of your letters can specify you were in the RC (a positive) and THUS had some curricular and cocurricular experiences such as the RC Spanish class , which are ungraded or graded P/F.
In addition, the fact you’ve taken Intensive 1&2 will be a plus for med school (cherry on the cake, all other things being equal, at admission - science GPA and total GPA +MCAT are the core of your application. But truly useful for our medical work. )
