taking everything to college

How do you take all your things: clothing, furniture, supplies, everything, up to college at the beginning of the year? I live in NC and my top school is in RI. Can I send it up or do I have to drive it up?

I think you can use UPS, that's what my friend did. No idea how much it costs though.

Hope your not applying to Brown.

What furniture do you need? Most dorms give you a desk and desk lamp as well as the other basics. You could take the minumum at first, and have your family ship additional boxes after you arrive, if you find that certain things are needed. You can also pay for linen service at most schools. Lots of people do this the first year to cut down on luggage, and then drop it after that. If you can have someone drive you, that is of course the easiest route.

Many kids travelling a distance go up a few days early and buy the larger items there. Bed, Bath and Beyond has a service where you can choose items in your home state and then pick them up at a store close to your school. It's called Pack and Hold. If you and your parents are flying, you can each take the maximum luggage allotment and fit quite a bit of your personal clothing and stuff.
