Taking Gap year?

Hey guys,
I am an international student and I didn’t get into a university I can afford this year. However, my chances are good into getting at one of the top universities in my country? should I take a gap year and re-apply? I really want to study abroad and my chances after college are way better off than even studying at the top university here.
Also I did some trial tests and I can get a perfect score and all of the other stuff but I’m stuck between wasting a chance here and thinking that it’s better to apply again?
pls help.

I would go to the school in your home country. Getting the same results next year is highly likely.

The key to a successful gap year is to do something that is actually meaningful and demonstrates personal growth to the admissions officers. Retaking standardized tests isn’t going to do it. If you got accepted into colleges but they are unaffordable, that isn’t going to change next year because very few colleges meet the full need of international applicants. If you have an affordable option in your country, that is your best option.

Your chances “after college are way better off “ . . . . .for what?
For employment?

If you have an affordable option in your home county I’d grab it. It is unlikely that a gap year will change your results in the US.

yes, most of the private sector employers tend to like graduates from abroad rather than graduates from the same country -I have done research about that.

you could always go to grad school in the US; that’s what many of my cousins have done and have been able to get jobs in the U.S. afterwards.
