Im in 10th grade now, and Saddly, I just cant take high school seriously. Im in a small rural high school, and all of the classes seem like a joke to me. They dont really teach anything, most of the work is just to keep us busy. I keep trying to motivate myself because my grades went down from all A's to A's and a B or two. I do my homework, but never bother to study for tests or spend much time on assignments. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way? Any tips on getting motivated?

I go to a dumb school where I’m pretty much definitely the #1 rank. I truly hate when kids say to me, “OH MY GOD YOU SO SMARTTTTTTTTT I WISH I HAD YUR GRADESSSSSS” and when I get upset over getting 80s on tests with like 20 multiple choice questions and of course everyone else failed miserably because that’s all they aspire to do, they get mad at me. I try and remind them all that I didn’t get into the smart school (requires a test, one point short from admission, I cried for three days) and therefore all 900 kids there are smarter than me.

So what does that make the kids at my school? Legally ■■■■■■■■, if such a term existed.

I’m really not even that smart. Getting a 99 in my school really requires no effort.

I’ve been pretty motivated because my high school is very rigorous; I hated school until transferring districts and basically until I reached high school with leveled classes, but honors options really saved me. If going to a harder high school is not an option for you, something to look into would be either online classes that would provide more of a challenge or dual enrollment with a local college. Hopefully if you find classes that interest you and actually make you think, taking the time to try in school will get easier. Hope that helps! :)

My school doesnt offer any AP or Honors classes, im already taking classes at the local ACM campus. Those classes helped me bring some interest back into school, but im only able to take 1 per semester due to the way my school sets up their scheduling. Ive been looking into online classes, im going to talk to the school come time to schedule classes for next year about doing some sort of blended schooling (hopefully they allow that, im not sure yet).

Visit some college campuses this coming summer if you have room in your schedule. It’ll serve as fuel for your motivation throughout junior year :)

I wish I had your problem though. My school is very competitive at the top, even cutthroat. I hate the each-to-his-own, dog-eat-dog attitude at my school because the intensity does breed some academic animosity… Be thankful you are coasting through school and look for opportunities outside of school to take rigorous classes (e.g. CTY, FLVS, EPGY, or community college…although these are all fairly manageable and not as challenging as one would hope.)

I hope so.
