Taking it "Easy" Senior Year?

So I’ve recently decided that my top choice school is Emory University, I’m absolutely in love with that school. Throughout high school, I’ve taken as many Honors/APs as possible and with my current schedule I will graduate with 9 AP classes.

My senior schedule consists of
Periods 1-4: AP Calc, AP Physics, AP Econ, AP Lit
Period 5&6: ?¿?
Period 7: free period

So 5 and 6 i am currently signed up for a healthcare class that would take two periods. I’m not really interested in ever entering the field, I just have to choose between taking that class and taking Spanish+ an additional AP class(I’d choose AP Human Geo). I’m really stuck because I hate our Spanish program, the teachers are terrible and as much as I’m interested in the language the learning environment is really terrible, also Id have to take on another AP class. I’m going to be participating in sports, a job, and clubs after school on top of all of the other applications and things that senior year entails.

So basically, should I take it “easy” by opting for the healthcare class which would let me focus more on my harder classes or taking the Spanish 3/AP Human combo which would add a bit more to my resume?

Talk to your GC- if it’s going to impact their reccomendation in terms of course rigor in the context of the school, just take Spanish and human geo. otherwise, I would just take the health care course so you can work on having strong essays and stuff

Take Spanish 3. Not having 3 years of foreign language can limit your college options.

Take Spanish 3, and work with the department to improve the class, not just participating, but whatever you need to do to help make the program better for everyone else as well.

I hated my French department, but the school I wanted to go to liked four years of a language. So I took it, and got into that school. A show of consistency is highly desirable to schools, as much as the actual class is like nails on a chalkboard.

For Emory: “Students must submit a transcript of their school records thus far with their application. In the senior year, a mid-year transcript and a final transcript is sent to Emory after the application process is complete. To be competitive, Emory applicants must have completed four years of high school English, two years of high school history, two years of high school social studies, and two years of high school science lab. Emory only requires three years of math and two years of science and foreign language, but it prefers to admit students who have studied each of those subjects for four years. It also prefers students to have taken at least one fine art course. The average high school GPA of an Emory student is 3.84.” (http://classroom.synonym.com/emory-university-undergraduate-admission-requirements-6446.html)

If Emory is your top choice, you might want to pay attention to what they are asking for and compare it to what you have to offer.

I think you should have at least 5 subjects not including PE.

Well I talked to my GC and decided to switch to the 5 AP schedule, I think it may be a bit difficult but I do feel that will be far more beneficial than just taking a two-period filler class on top of the free period. Thank you all for your advice!
