Taking Japanese

Hi, I signed up for japanese 1a. Is there some sort of 1ax class I need to sign up as well? All I see is the 1 lecture time for it. Thanks for any help. =)

you didn't sign up for 1a, you signed up for 10a. only the 1/1X convention is used for classes taught through the linguistics department. yours is NOT.

Japanese Studies Program

haha yea theres no 10a/10ax...series goes 10A, 10B, 10C for first year

in the first couple days of lecture, the professer will send you an email with a list of days for your conversational class, which is generally one hour three days a week, and youll pick a time and show up (mazumi is a wonderful ta if hes still ta'ing)

once you get to that class, youll have your first conversational class, and then if there are more than (usually 12) students, they do a "lottery" to see who gets to stay in that section time and who has to move...

so the lottery goes you pick chopsticks and whoever gets the black one has to move (at least thats what it used to be)

after that youll either move to a new section or stay with the one you just went to for the rest of the quarter

its a weird process but you get used to it

Whoops sorry for the typo. Thanks for the clarification. I'm going to try to take the placement when I get there and hopefully not take the course.

wait i read this post and now im confused

i want to take italian and was giong to sign up for 1A/1AX
is there some other class im supposed to be taking?
i didn't see any other series
