<p>Hello everyone, the math dept. website says that the only prerequisite for 33b is 31b. Does that mean that I won't need multivariable calculus and linear algebra for differential equations? Can I take it right now without knowledge in 32 and 33a? Has anyone here done it before?</p>
<p>No you don’t. I took math 33b before I took math 31a and I got an A-</p>

<p>What’s your major? And i have heard that 33a is helpful for 33b. Biochem recommends we take 33b but we only need to go up to 32a, so I guess it’s doable without any of the other courses in between.</p>

<p>I’m still unsure yet about my major. I declared as a bio major, but I might switch to Math/Applied Science. I want to do some form of math+biological science.</p>
<p>Well if you want to switch to applied math why don’t you just do the series in order?</p>
<p>Definitely doable. Some knowledge in 32A would help (partial differentiation), but other than that the 33A stuff that would appear in 33B is pretty easy to learn ie the wronskian (basically taking a determinant), or finding constants in linear equations.</p>

<p>Oh okay, yeah it is doable…but some of the engineers I know said that 33b was easier for them because they had taken 33a while a lot of the class hadn’t, but I don’t think you would be put at too much of a disadvantage for not taking 33a beforehand</p>
