Taking math over the summer?

I am currently a junior, taking Calc B/C this year. My school does offer AP Statistics, but it is after the normal school day, which conflicts with after-school sports, so it's impossible for me to take that next year. There are no more math classes I can take at the high school.

However, I aspire to go to a top college such as Stanford, so I want to have enough math on my transcript. The other option I thought of was taking a Statistics course at the local community college. I'd like to take it the summer after junior year, so I can have fewer classes as a senior. Would this make me at all appear like a slacker to top colleges, that I had no math class senior year, even though I took one that preceding summer? Or should I just take an evening class or something senior year? Does it matter?

i don't think it would make you appear as a slacker; if anything, it may very well appear that you are trying to challenge yourself by taking college courses. Make sure to write about the math situation you are in when applying.

What if I only had 4 or 5 classes as a senior, but they were mostly APs and stuff? Would that look ok? I'm thinking of having

Govt AP/Econ
Literature AP
Physics honors
Maybe Biology AP, if they let me have 2 science classes

And I plan on taking a French course at the community college as well, because I'll be finished with French AP this year. And then either the Stats class over the summer, or during senior year.

Is that enough to make me look competitive?

well, at HS level, AP BC should do it. And you should know that Stat is much easier than Calc. Top colleges often want to see your grade on AP BC, so you better get a 5 on it. If you do that, math is enough for you.

i took bc during my junior year (got a 5), and i didn't take any math my senior yr, even though my school offered AP Stats. I did get into top colleges. if this makes you feel better

That DOES make me feel better, thank you!

Yeah, my mom told me stats is easier than calc... in an effort to comfort me after nights and nights of pulling my hair out and staying up until 2am finishing calc problems :D haha but I should be good on the AP test, because on the first day of class the teacher told us ~80% of her students get 5s, and very few get below a 4.

A question-- what was your senior year curriculum like? And did you take any community college courses?

I didn't take any community college courses. In my senior year, I took AP English Literature, AP Music Theory, AP Physics B, Advanced French4, AP Econ (macro/macro). At my old HS, 95% take 5 courses per semester, 5% take 4. My courseload was the hardest, I think. Or one of the hardest.

Then you took a MUCH harder courseload than I'll be taking, it sounds like.

What could I do to make it look like I'm challenging myself if I can't get the two science classes?

I could take Algebra 1B or something, just for kicks :D

id steer clear of algebra 1B - would look better to have a study hall :D

haha I was just joking. In fact I'll probably be a TA for one period, but that won't really mean anything in terms of college apps.

So does anybody have any tips on what I could do for a more rigorous senior year schedule if I can't get 2 science courses?
