Hi , I am planning to take Math 1B /Physics 7a and Engg 7 this spring as a Freshman. I am looking to transfer into Engg from L&S. I am concerned with the coming work load, however would like to see if its feasible at all to work all these subjects in spring semester ? I am currently doing Math1a & Chemistry 1a and doing decent. Thanks your inputs really appreciated in advance.

That would be a typical normal workload, if you add one more course (preferably a non-lab/project course).

I believe Engineering 7 is ONLY offered to Engineering students in the spring. The earliest you will be able to take E7 is the Fall of 2014 (which is run by the ME department).

Thanks ucbalumnus - I am not sure if they will ever let me get into Eng 7. Coming from L&S, I have a shot only during the adjustment period. Keeping my fingers crossed. Besides I will have to take something like English 1B, since I got a 5 in ap eng composition, whereas got a 4 in ap lit.

Berkeley17 - I thought they would allow me but only during the adjustment period.

Be sure to have other useful courses for your intended engineering major or breadth requirements as backups in case you do not get into Engineering 7.

Wait with E7 until you’ve taken Math 54 or taking it concurrently. There’s a lot of overlap of information on ODE’s and there’s definitely an advantage to take E7 after or while taking Math 54.

UpMagic and ucbalumnus -Thank you for your insights. Now it makes a whole lot of sense.

Can E7 (math1b is pre-req) be taken in summer of freshman year after completing Math1B in spring of freshman year?

If E7 was to be taken in summer of freshman year, would it count for change of college from LS to COE?

Is taking E7 concurrently with Math 54 in Fall of sophomore year after finishing math1b in freshman year, the best option?

What courses you need to take in what semester depend on which engineering major you are interested in.

The change college to CoE page is here:
[Change of College (into COE) ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](Change of college - Berkeley Engineering)

You should check the course plan and prerequisite sequences for your desired major to see what you need to take when:
[College of Engineering 2013-2014 Undergraduate Guide ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](Undergraduate Guide - Berkeley Engineering)

Unfortunately, it will probably be very difficult to get into E7 even during the adjustment period (ALL seats are reserved for engineering students…and 4 or 5 of the engineering majors require this class) coupled with the fact that most Engineering majors take E7 in the spring of their freshman year.

To your second question, I’m not completely sure if you can take E7 during the summer…if you can it will have to be at UC Berkeley Extension as next to no CCs (that i know) offer the class. There is, however, 100% certainty that you can take it in the Fall of 2014.

got it- then I’ll plan on doing E7 in fall 2014- that is the best option. You are correct the only CC’s that offer E7 like courses are Ohlone and San Mateo and they do not offer in Summer.
