Taking more STEM vs more foreign language

I heard that for most schools, taking all 4 years with a foreign language gives you a solid leg up from the other applicants. Is this true, or is it fine to drop it after 2/3 high school years and pursue other STEM courses instead (if you want to do a STEM major)?

It depends on the school @spectral. Some schools say 4 years and really want to see 4 years. In general, it’s not recommended to drop a core course to take extra courses in something else.

@socaldad2002 - My D was unable to take Spanish IV junior year because of a scheduling conflict with her math class. Thankfully her Spanish III class was actually a college level DE, and her guidance counselor noted the scheduling conflict in his LOR. That said, she targeted more STEM based schools that only recommended 2-3 years of FL.
