Taking more than 60 units before transfering?

I am aware that the maximum transfer allowance is 70 units

but what if you take more than 70 to finish your prerequisites? I am probably going to that road because i have long way of finishing engineering pre-reqs before transferring, and being an F1 student i have to take 12 units per semester no matter what.

Do they disqualify you from transferring? If not, will it work against you?

I am in CCC, i have no problem staying an extra year if that granted me an admission to the major in the school i really want.

No it will not disqualify you if you’ve only attended a CCC. In some cases, the units obtained past 70 may be used for subject credit when transferring.

There is no unit limitation if all of your units come from community college. Some of the UC’s have specific unit limitations if you’ve previously attended a four year university which is usually between 80-90 semester units, but if you’ve only stayed in CC you can apply with as many units as you want.

The 70 unit mark you’re referring to is the maximum amount of units you can start with once you enroll at a UC, not the maximum number of units you can apply with. Effectively if you have 70 or more CC units when you transfer you’ll start with 105 quarter units (70 semester units) even if you transfer with 400 units. They do this so that you can’t start at a UC and only have a handful of units to graduate as they expect you to spend roughly two years there. If they didn’t you could transfer with 120 semester units and be a quarter away from transferring without even having taken an upper division course. If you transfer with over 70 units they’ll award you subject credit meaning for all UC transferable units, meaning any prerequisites that those units fulfill will still be acknowledged.

When I transferred I had around 90-100 semester units because I spent 3 years in CC, so you shouldn’t have any problems.
