Taking notes on lappy in class

I just bought my beloved lappy today! I chose a Gateway tablet PC, and I was planning on using the tablet/note-taking features on it to take notes in class.

Is this prevalent in lecture halls? Or would I just look like, out of place by taking notes on a lappy? I mean, I think it's rather efficient and would come very much in hand to take notes on this tablet PC. What are your thoughts?

Any thoughts from those who attend UIUC?

people do use laptops for in-class note taking. many professors use note sets that can be downloaded and printed from online (some even require this) so not having to pring the notes would be a plus. in class laptop use isnt that common...just a few students with one scattered here and there...but you can tell that in the next few years everyone will have one, then it will be required to have one!

Very few people take notes on their laptop. Most with laptops end up talking on aim or goofing off. But I think I am going to try to start bringing my laptop to class next semester.

smurphy, why are u going to try bringing ur laptop to class next semester? do u think it'll be easier to take notes?

I bring my laptop to every class that has extensive note taking. If you can type really fast, I highly recommend it. There has been many times a professor has mentioned something very important in class (i.e. this will be on the exam) and I was able to get everything he/she said..word for word.

that's a good point. not to mention that my tablet has a program where i can take notes and even record an audio clip of the prof's lecture. i guess ive decided to bring my laptop to class from now on. after all, its part of the reaosn why i bought a tablet

Yes it is easier to take notes. I type much faster than I scribble. I have a tendency to take notes in notebooks then never look at the notebook again. It is much easier to reread a word document on my laptop.

Even if I had a labtop, I'd still write notes with a pen b/c I tend to write faster with a pen. Plus I don't normally type like how they teach you to. But I still type pretty fast.

And doesn't printing out stuff cost 5-15 cents? Why is that so great?

"And doesn't printing out stuff cost 5-15 cents? Why is that so great?"

Oh, never thought about that. I have my own printer so I'm not farmiliar with the whole 5-15 cents thing.

:D I don't tend to like to trust technology, but that's just me
