Taking only one SAT subject test...

If I’m applying for UCs and privates, will it be okay to take only one SAT subject test? I know most schools would ask for 2 but I don’t really have much time to study for two SAT subject tests since my test is next month and that I’m a senior. (Was initially going to take Math 2 and Bio E, but decided to do Bio E because I want to major in Bio). Any opinions on this?

You are putting yourself at a disadvantage to all the other applicants who will submit two recommended SAT subject tests. If you are a URM, or have some other hook, it may not be such an issue. It will not help you if you are unhooked. If you are OOS for the UCs, I think you can probably forget it, tbh. And UCs don’t factor in race anyway.

UCs only look at subject tests in some specific majors and schools, so take a look at that before you decide. For example, here’s the recommendation for UCSD:

San Diego

Jacobs School of Engineering and biological or physical sciences majors: Math Level 2 and a science test (Biology E/M, Chemistry, or Physics) closely related to the applicant’s intended major.

Remember, these are recommendations, not mandates. Students will not be penalized for failing to take the SAT Subject Tests.

A few UC campuses recommend students take certain SAT Subject Tests for specific colleges or schools, and majors. Even if subject tests are not recommended, they may add merit to a student’s application.
