Taking Political Science Courses as Non Poli Sci Major

Fellow Cal Bears,

I've got a question for those of you who know the ins and outs of Telebears. I've got an earlier than usual Telebears time and I was thinking about taking an upper division political science course. Let's assume that there will still be space in the class by the time I register. My problem is that I'm not a political science major.

Provided that there is space available during my phase 1, am I even allowed to register/waitlist a political science course? For every PS class on the master schedule, it says, "There are no restrictions at the coursewide level." but it also says, "Seats have been reserved for students with a major of political science" - nothing about any seats for other undergrads.

Bottom line: I don't think I would be able to get into any PS class during my phase 1 because of those restrictions, but can I put myself on the waitlist, providing that there's room? Or will the system not even let me do that?

Thanks for your help!

For Phase I, if your are not a poli sci you can waitlist the class and you will be moved in the class once phase two start. But most classes are almost full (if not full) by the time phase two starts. Which class are you looking at?

How about “Psychology 150 or/and 160” which i plan to use Phase 2 Regent Priority. I know that they will be reserved for Psychology major first like ESPM 50AC this year.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I wanted to know! My hope would be that someone would drop the class in phase 2 or once the class starts and I could slot in, although I suppose that would depend on whether or not the waitlist is processed manually or automatically. The courses I’m looking at are PS 103 and PS 106C (which I know fills up incredibly quickly.) The waitlist for 106C is only 5 spots, so provided that I can get on the waitlist, I figure that I’d have pretty decent odds of getting in.
