Taking practice tests, what scores needed and how accurate to actual APUSH exam?

Hi,

I currently have taken 4 practice tests so far in preperation for the May 11 APUSH test. I am still warming up to this multiple choice part of the exam. I plan on reading all of AMSCO in the next 5 days and highlighting key terms. I also plan on analyzing the cause/effect of the key 500 terms as much as I can/don’t know in the next week as well.

I usually get 6’s and 7’s on FRQ/DBQ writing in class from my teacher.

From REA Crash Course 2012 - Online Test -http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0738608130/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01 - I got 41/80

From REA 2003 6 Practice Tests - Test #4 - [Amazon.com: REA’s AP US History Test Prep with TESTware Software (9780878913329): J. A. McDuffie, G. W. Piggrem, S.E. Woodworth: Books](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0878913327/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00) - I got 44/80.

From AMSCO - [Amazon.com: United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination (9781567656602): John J. Newman, John M. Schmalbach: Books](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1567656609/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00) - I got 48/80

From Princeton Review 2004-2005 - [Amazon.com: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2004-2005 Edition (College Test Prep) (9780375763922): Princeton Review: Books](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0375763929/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00) - I got 57/80

I took the tests in that order and my score has gone up significantly over time, but the real question is how comparable are these tests compared to the actual AP exam? What type of MC and writing scores do I need to get the 5?

Ta look at the 2006 scoring: <a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board;

Looks you you should be in the 5 range; 4 at worst. Good luck!

would the range of 111+ for a 5 have changed since they changed the method of scoring by not deducting points for wrong answers?

and also how similar is REA, AMSCO, and Princeton Review in their practice tests?

I got a 5 last year on APUSH and I read the AMSCO book and Direct Hits. I also took 4 released practice tests after with an average incorrect answers of 4.

So, what I would do is search college confidential for released APUSH exams and do them. Once you finish one test go back to the ones you’ve missed brush up on the topic you’ve missed, after that take another test.

I’m doing something similar to what you did. I read the Pageant during the school year, and am going to finish reading 38-42 this weekend. I’m also going to read AMSCO and do it’s practice questions and pre-write a lot of there FRQ prompts. Instead of Direct Hits, I’m using REA Crash Course.

Official tests from the College Board: going to take the 1996 released exam, my teacher is also giving us three released exams next week.

What do you think? I calculated the time and it’s about 40 hrs of total prep counting this weekend and next week in total.

How long it takes you to prep does not matter, it all depends on the quality of your study sessions.

With that being said, I think you have a good plan that would easily land you a 5. How well you do on the released exams are truly indicative to how you would do on the real exam.

Also, if you have time, review released FRQs and read that essays were scored high range and essays that were scored in the medium range. This will also give you an idea on how to structure your free response/DBQ.

This may seem like overkill but it will guarantee you a 5 and you will be very confident come exam day.

Thanks, yeah the FRQ/DBQ thing that you talk about is also part of my plan :)

Just got 62/80 on the 1996 released exam. Only on Chapter 3 of AMSCO. any comments?

What is AMSCO?

It’s considered the bible to APUSH prep. [Amazon.com: United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination (9781567656602): John J. Newman, John M. My teacher had us take the 2008 audit exam. I got 64/80. 5 range?

Grade my DBQ/FRQs to see if I got a 5 or not?
