Taking premed classes @ other university during summer

For example:

I am a berkeley (UC) student. Is it ok if I take premed classes at San Francisco State U. (CSU) during summer (cuz it is cheaper!)? Do they think it is like cheating or wt? Is it OK to do?

Also, what if I take it @ the place like santa clara U. (private)? What is the difference?

Columbia highly discouraged taking pre-med requirements at any other school (even if it was an equivalent) when my daughter was there. At the time she was trying to find a way to go abroad and questioned the pre-med advisor about picking up a summer course at Penn.

I would speak with your pre-med advisor about your particular reasons for wanting to take a course elsewhere and see what they say.

pre med advisors generally dont know "s h i t." (at least the one in my school is not that helpful at all)

btw, UC Berkeley doesn't really have pre med advisor. He's like a career advisor.

I think it is generally looked down upon by med schools to take pre-reqs outside your university ...especially if you go to an "easier" college or CC to take them....i wouldnt take the chance of making it look like you were trying to get a better grade by taking important classes without the competition of other Cal pre-meds....if you want to save money try taking classes for your major that arent pre-reqs...

There have been numerous posts on this subject. The general consensus is if you take any course at another school it should NOT be a science or math class that is a pre-med requirement.

Taking a humanities class to fulfill a core requirement is another matter but science and math classes should be taken at your undergraduate institution.
