Taking prerequisites in the spring prior to transfer... UCLA

So I'm majoring in Economics and I will be applying to Berkeley and UCLA. It does't look like I'll be able to get my microeconomics class this semester. I plan to take Calc 2 in the spring. Now I'll be taking microeconomics AND calc 2 in the spring, which is before transferring but UCLA/UCB won't be able to see 2 out of 5 prerequisites. I've gotten As on the other 3 prerequisites, I have a 4.0 gpa, and I'm gonna TAP. Oh and I've been doing the UCLA CCCP for 2 years now and I'm in Berkeley TAP. (It's a transfer program)

So will taking 2 prerequisites for Econ in the spring affect my chances of getting in?

It probably will, since people who finished prereqs before Spring will be at a competitive advantage. But your GPA is stellar and you’re in TAP so I think you should get into at least one of them.

yeah i hear what you’re saying. That’s been bothering me.

Theoretically you will be worse off, it will affect your chances since admissions prefer to see the grades for major prerequisites. However since you have a 4.0 GPA such disadvantage will be negible, You 4.0 GPA will overpower your “weakness”. The fact that you took calc 1 and got an A is good enough IMO.

That’s just my 2 cents (current math/Econ UCLA transfer student)

Ps. I meant to say negligible. You should be fine at either of the bears schools

just a warning about UCLA’s Econ classes.

They average about 100 students and are graded on a curve. For ex: there I took an easy midterm and got an A (95%) however it was considered an A- since everyone did so well…

Also I got a B- (81%) and ended being a B+ because everyone did so bad…

So curves can help you or hurt you.
