I recently did Exeter and Andover interviews... right before the interview, I was dying of nervousness. Apparently, I did "extremely well" according to the interviewers (they told my parents). So if you don't have any questions, I'm just here to calm you down... :)

@ doomedforfailure, are you applying to eighth grade? I used to be a nervous wreck until I remembered that the interview accounted for most of my application. Was it easy? What kind of questions did they ask you?

I’m applying for ninth. Wait, how does that connect? Wouldn’t you be more nervous if you remembered that the interview was more important? >.< And so I’m guessing you’re going to an interview in the near future…

I don’t know if it was easy or hard; the difficulty, in general, is hard to tell depending on what kind of person you are DURING THE INTERVIEW. I usually am pretty nervous, shaky, and all the things that the interviewers aren’t looking for during an important event like an interview. Somehow, though, I channeled my nervousness into words… so I ended up overwhelming the interviewer with my long answers. :P

Questions… well it also depends. For Andover, I was first asked, “What’s your family like?” (well some sort of variation of question like that :P), and so I just explained, and that just led to another topic. I suggest you lookup on other websites/search on Google, “What kind of questions do they ask on interviews?” or just search online, “interview andover (exeter) questions”. I’d just stick to searching Andover or Exeter with the other key words because they are the most frequently asked about, I think… I mean they are dream schools to lots of kiddies so. >.<

Then after you do that… I suggest you write answers to them. Maybe not the weird questions that they ask. Like… the frequent questions. Those were all I needed–just thinking and planning what you might say during an interview is helpful.

Okay, my fingers are hurting for some reason so I’ll write more later… just ask me more questions and I’ll get back to you ASAP!

Good luck with future interview, everyone! (PS: I didn’t proofread this… sorry!)

I’m generally not a nervous person, the thing I said was a joke. What school do you perfer between the two?

Wow lolz I feel like a fool.

I pretty much consider them both the same thing… if I get into one, it’ll be a miracle. Anyways, at first, Exeter because I thought they were more organized with what they were doing. But now I’m heading more to Andover because they seem to have a lot more freedom and space… the buildings aren’t too close to each other, and I like that sort of thing. Exeter, on the other hand, is quite packed comparatively. I find the streets a little bit scary and dangerous–although they aren’t. I just get that weird feeling. How about you?

I have no idea yet we are scheduling a tour and interview right now. I am hoping to do it by Friday so that I don’t have to wait till September 19th to submit my application.

Okay. Well good luck, and PM if you just wanna discuss BS and such! :)

Okay thanks. My interview for Andover is on September 19, and for Exeter its on October 15th.

Advice: Don’t post exact interview dates…before or after. You never know who is reading this.

Why SevenDad? so the AO don’t find your posts? Oh well, I guess you have a point

I also want to apply to exeter and andover and a couple others but for 10th grade. My question is: Do you think I should schedule an interview fast? because I was thinking about doing it in about october but it seems that they are scheduling their interviews for quite far away…

Those are not actually the dates, I would never actuaply give that away in the open. Those are the old dates.
@ faithlara, they usually have interviews for day students in the summer, and Exeter finishes interviews this Friday, and starts in September.

@Hades98: Let’s say for example, that you provided your interview dates on one thread, your stats/ECs in a “Chance Me” thread, and the opinion that “School A is not your first choice, but you are going to interview there for ‘practice’ for School B” on another unrelated thread. It’s not too difficult for an Admissions person from School A to connect the dots.

FWIW, I found the admissions offices to be cattle call-like for the interviews we had scheduled for Columbus Day (long weekend in October) last year. Which is why I advocate the “Summer Interview” strategy…

@faithlara: I’m applying as a ninth grade boarding student, and I went to Exeter and Andover in the summer… my parents said I should’ve scheduled the interviews even earlier than August, if it was possible. They said that the spots would fill up pretty quickly, and so that’s why… but I guess since you’re going to schedule during the school year, it’s better because you can see the classes in action.
Anyway, I think you should schedule early. The earliest should be the schools you don’t really like, and the latest should be your top choices so that if you mess up/be nervous in the first few ones, you probably will gain experience and not do that later.
Also, I know what you mean about that… for Milton, one of the schools I was going to apply to, but now I don’t really want to, the people said that only international students could interview in the summer, no exceptions. Sheesh! That was bothersome, but that’s not the reason why I decided not to apply to the school. And just to save time, you should plan out maybe 2 boarding schools in the same day (I did Exeter and Andover in the same day; they’re only an hour away from each other), if you can. I feel like you all should’ve scheduled earlier… just my opinion. I tend to get nervous if things aren’t done early enough (it’s never to early to start thinking about college, lolz) so yeah.

Okay anyways, I think I answered most of your questions? If I didn’t, ask away~!

Good luck to everyone!!! :)

I tried applying early, but unfortunately my parents were busy until recently, but I think I am fine. I am going to schedule all the other schools with my parents help because I’m not very far away.

I would definitely rush to Andover and Exeter before the admissions doors are closed.

Yeah, I totally understand you both, Invent and LeoBro. You all have until January… no, but seriously. Try to schedule some of your interviews on the same days… or else you’ll probably have a lot of driving to do! It might not be bad for you, but it might be bad for your parents. Crankiness, especially if you get home at like 1 am in the morning. :P

I kind of have this good feeling about Exeter and Andover, as a lot of sources cite them as higher institutions of learning. I am not saying that the other schools aren’t as good, but I want to get E/A over with first, because they have the lowest admissions percentage. Interviews on the same day don’t sound right to me, because you may be tiredafter one of them, so a tired applicant at one school and a fresh one at another.

Hey~ Uh did you have a personal relationship with the interviewer? That’s what a lot of people talk about, saying that it’s really important~ Also, I heard from my mom’s friend that schools interview parents too? They ask about jobs and stuff…?

Lolz, that’s true, but you always could take a nap in the car. >.< I don’t think interviews are that tiring, though. The only thing that was bad was that I looked at one school first, and then the school after–I didn’t like it as much. But I made sure my interview was great for both of them… I find tiredness a weakness, so I just get around. Blood circulation! :)
