Hey everyone! So last year I took AP English Lang and got a 4 on the test, which to me was pretty good. Now I’m a senior and thinking about dropping IB English because I can’t afford buying so many books and fulfilling other requirements for the class. Will this hurt my changes at college? I’m at the top of my class and taking other AP classes but I don’t know if it will look bad to just take a regular English class. My intended major is science related or finance/Econ not related to literature or anything like that. Thank you! Oh and id like to attend UCs or similar universities that’s why I’m worried.
Is this the only IB class you would be taking?
Is AP English Lit available?
How many other AP classes are you taking?
What does your guidance counselor tell you about students from your school who applied successfully to the UCs?
@happymomof1 Im taking other 2 AP classes (calc and US gov) and IB biology. No unfortunately it is either ib English or regular! That’s why I’m not very sure about what to do. In total, from all high school id be taking 6 AP/IB courses (counting ib English would be 7) and I passed 4 AP tests I took last year, 3 of classes I took and 1 other I just took the AP test and got a 5. Counselor has lots of kids and is too busy to see me personally that’s why I don’t really know what to do. Thanks for replying!
“Counselor has lots of kids and is too busy to see me personally that’s why I don’t really know what to do.”
Then speak with the AP and IB coordinators. Someone at your HS has the information that you need. Or sic your mom on that guidance counselor. “too busy” often changes to “sure, right now” when a parent gets involved.
What’s your senior schedule?
hat college’s are you aiming for?
Do you attend a lower performing or high performing school?
The right answer depends on your personal context so providing these answers would help.
