Taking SAT 4 times

In October, I got 2180.
CR:710, W, 670(8), M.800 and this was my third time taking.

I took again in November which was just yesterday to break 2200 and I think I really aced that test..but this was my fourth time taking the test... should I cancel it? Cornell looks at all scores and I heard that taking SAT more than 3 times does not give good impression.. but if I dont cancel the score, I think I can get over 2200..

Your score before was sufficient. 710 in CR? 800 in math? They don’t even look at writing. Those were solid scores already.

^ Yea my score is not bad except I am an international and my GPA and ECs’ don’t stand out…I think I can break 2200 … comparing my answers at CC… and if I am lucky, possibly 2250… Should I still cancel the score? Nov test is my fourth test

I’d say three times is one too many to begin with, even for an int’l.

After the first two times, you just seem desperate and your score just reflects how long you’ve studied and not your actual capabilities.

^ So I cancel my score? I heard that three times is Ok.

I would recommend not taking the test again. Colleges wonder if you have a life if you overdo it. ^___^

From what I remember, they superscore. If you already went through the pains of taking the test and you think you did well, I wouldn’t bother cancelling; just let it go.

cornell only considers math and critical reading? no writing?

Taking the SAT 3 times is really bad? I thought 3 was fine, but more was iffy…now I’m confused.

I took it 3 or 4 times, can’t remember. But one of them was my freshman year just for kicks, so I figure they probably discounted that one.

And yes, only Math and CR. They require writing because they’re collecting data on it to determine if they will use it in the future.

now, if you get a 200 on the Writing, you probably won’t get in.

what about 1 time junior year and 2 times senior year? (for sat)

and so an 800 in writing doesn’t help at all? :(

I thought 3 times was fine too. Obviously, if it’s like Oct., Nov, and Dec. all for SAT I, then something’s wrong, but twice junior and 1 senior should be fine…

during an info session i went to 3 years ago (god i feel old now), one of the cornell CAS admissions directors said that once you take the SAT three times, it’s kind of a red flag for them. it’s not the make-or-break decision, but it gives them a little bit of a “whoa… hey what’s up here?” if you take it 4 times… well that’s a little bit overboard and “that won’t weigh in your favor” (that part’s verbatim).

seriously the difference between a 2180 and a 2200 is the difference between 1 multiple choice question or the way it was curved. just because you “didnt break a 2200” doesnt mean you will get an automatic rejection

and i always say that if you take the SAT, or any standardized test, more than 3 times, you can include “standardized test taking” in your extra curricular section ;)

Personally, I took it twice during junior and once during senior, so I hope that’s fine. SAT’s are supposed to naturally increase by ~100 points a year anyways, so I hope they only look at the senior one.

Got 1880 the first time (yeah, kinda low with a CR 560), 2070 second, and 2180 3rd.

Am I okay?

I dunno… I always thought 3 times are considered acceptable, while 4 may be a bit overboard.

I got in with a 2010 superscored. None of my individual tests ever broke 2000.

I did do considerably better on the ACT with a 32, although my scores were 36M 34S 29R 28E. Since I applied as a definite science major, I think that helped me out a little, lol.

I cancelled my score today… will stick with 2180 :)

My opinion is this for anyone reading this in the future. Most people who have scored in the 1400’s for reading and math have learned everything on the SAT I by the middle of Junior year. You are better off taking the SAT in Jan/Mar of Junior Year and then be done and concentrate on your SAT II’s and maybe try the ACT which has more difficult math so you benefit from taking it later. Just my opinion.

^ lol I took subject tests after my first SAT I and my Math II score is higher than any of my SAT I M score.

keep in mind you can get a lot (6-8? as of '07/'08) wrong on Math IIC and still get an 800. you can get just ONE wrong on the SAT I M and get as low as a 760. it all depends on the curve, really. and the curve is MUCH higher for Math IIC.
