Taking SAT for 1st Time

I am a junior this year and will be taking the SATs for the first time.
I selected the Princeton Review PSAT prep book and have been using it excessively.

Two questions:
Will I be able to utilize my PSAT book to study for the SATs?
When should I first take the SATs?
I would like to do well... ultimately in the 2100+ range. I'm not expecting this first time...however, it sure would be nice.

Its not Impossible

You can use your PSAT book to study since the questions are very similiar, but books are cheap and Princeton has an SAT book, so poney up the $12. Heck buy barrons too. $30 for books is a great deal when you compare it to the costs of tutors ($500 and up) or college ($50K and up).

Standard wisdom is to take the SAT in the spring of Jr year, then retest in the summer or early fall if necessary. This gives you the chance of taking advantage of any math or english classes you have next semester.

If you are studying for PSAT, though, you may consider taking the test in the November or December sitting this year. That takes advantage of your psat knowledge while its fresh.

Good luck. BTW, if you have take a practice PSAT, multiple that score times 10 and you can approximate your SAT score.
