Taking SAT in Oct. or Nov.?

My son took the SAT as a junior this past March. He scored a 650CR and 700M, but wants to take the test again this fall to try to improve those scores. He's not applying EA or ED to any schools. Is there any benefit or advantage to taking the test in October? Or should he wait until November? We'd appreciate any helpful thoughts regarding this.

If he's not applying ED/EA then there is not advantage to taking the October test. These tests are all standardized with curves made ahead of time so it will not make a difference. Now, time is key as far as raising your SAT scores. If he takes it in Nov, he will have 1 more month to practice. With around 3 months to go, he has enough time to improve his CR by effectively reading novels and magazines, like 1984 and the Scientific American. If he reads 30 minutes a day for the next 3 months it will show a great improvement on his CR as I can see thats what he needs to work on. Also, it might not be a bad idea, with the extra time, to pick up a good word list, if sentence completion are troubling him. All in all, the more time the better. PM me if you need materials.

If you have money to spare, I recommend to take both. The Oct test can be practice for the Nov test.

will be good for practice, but you wouldn't know your score for the Oct until after the registration deadline for Nov, so ...

Still, good for actual test like conditions

I see. I'm planning to take the October exam and if my scores aren't good, I would register for the December test and in between I would take SAT IIs in November. Still would get scores before most RD deadlines (I think).

trois, is it possible then? that sound really good to me!!! i had another plan as well. i will take SATIIs first in Oct, and then double SATs both in Nov and Dec, in case I do bad.

It might be different for international, but the CB site said that scores are released for the October exam on October 25 and that the deadline for the December exam is October 30. Then the scores for the December exam are posted on December 20, which is before most RD deadlines. Hope this helps!
