I may have to take SAT at another HS, share your experiences.
Will the new environment have an effect on my score??
Do you guys find it easier to take it at your own HS??

I took mine in another high school, which was closer to my house than my actual school. The environment was actually a lot more comfortable for me to tell you the truth. But personally, I feel that if you’re concentrated only on the SAT, then the environment shouldn’t really affect you. I am now awaiting my score… :)

Same exact situation as Shaqtus. I had been told beforehand that a large group of kids taking it with you would kinda freak you out, so to speak, and make you perform poorly on the writing, but I zoned everything else out completely after about 30 seconds. Don’t worry about an unfamiliar environment - you won’t even notice by the time you’ve written your essay thesis.

I actually liked taking it out of town because I didn’t know the people there. Therefore, I did not talk to anyone and could focus without talking about how nervous I was like teenagers usually do.

Ah - my school doesn’t even administer the SAT. So I had to take it in another high school. It was fine, really, no one cared much about anyone else anyway. Done it twice so far, at the same high school, and I’m doing it again at the same high school in June. Of course, it’s preferable if someone you know signs up to take it at the same place along with you. I have at least 10 people who are going to take the SAT at the same place as I am in June, and all are from my school. (It just happens that the test site is like the easiest choice for most of the students at my HS.)

I like what VirologyNerd said. It’s better to take it at a place where you don’t know anyone… it helps you focus more; when you start talking with your friends about your nervousness, you kind of move out of your concentration zone if you know what I mean.

thank you for the responses :D

Do it at a different place.

It was distracting knowing 80% of the people in the room, at least for me.

I’m mixed on a few points. But it might just be me

I took my first SAT (subject test, math 1) at my high school (end of freshman year) and knew NO ONE. No other freshman was taking a test since we do bio sophomore year (so there was no other tests we could take- i was an exception for math since i was the only freshman in algebra 2). Anyway, i felt pretty uncomfortable not knowing anyone, even though it was in my school.

The next year I took the Math II and Bio at another highschool in the area. I was with practically my whole biology class since we were required to take it, and our school didnt have the SATs that day. I was very comfortable seeing people I knew. Even if they are saying how nervous they are, you know you are too. Its better to be stressed with someone than to be there by yourself, waiting nervously with a million thoughts going through your head.

Come junior year, took the January SAT I at some other highschool in the area, didnt know anyone. I was uncomfortable not knowing anyone, and also for being at some random highschool I’ve never been in.
May SAT was at my school WITH all my classmates. Much more comfortable. I like being able to wait outside of a place I’ve been to thousands of times before, know the classrooms, and the people around you.

My child and his buddies go to a private high school. They all take the SATs/APs/SAT subject tests at the closest public high school and find it okay.

Idk, personally it was a difference for me. The first time I took it, it was administered at a different school and I felt I didn’t give it my all. When I took the May SAT at my high school, I felt way more comfortable and confident. Idk, that might just be me though.
